“Already Sentenced to Death,” C.S. Lewis, On Living in an Atomic Age
C.S. Lewis on living in light of our inevitable annihilation: ‘How are we to live in an atomic age?’ I am tempted to reply: ‘Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat at night; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer, an age of syphilis, an age of paralysis, an age of air raids, an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents. In other words, do not let us begin by exaggerating the novelty of our situation.
Intentional change Theory: Fancy term for a simple concept
I know it sounds complicated, but it’s really not. 1) Imagine, 2) Measure, 3) Plan, 4) Execute…. repeat!
Richard Boyatzis, a professor at Case Western Reserve University, introduced the model of Intentional Change Theory in a 2006 article. It’s a model that describes how meaningful and sustainable change happens. And it’s scalable from the individual, to couples, to families and teams, to organizations, communities, countries, and the whole globe. Here’s how it works.
Our Favorite Tool from Our Therapist: The Daily Check-in
Some people are surprised by this, but Dusty and I have been in therapy for as long as we’ve been a couple. We always say, “We like our relationship, we want it to be better, so we talk to a therapist!” We try to normalize going to therapy as a discipline of maintenance rather than recovery or rehabilitation. We maintain our marriage for the same reason we maintain our vehicles: we don’t want to wind up broken down on the side of the road.
Sources from the Values, Vision, and Goals Course
The exercises in the Values, Vision, and Goals courses (and workbooks) are curated from books, speakers, personal experiences, and other goal-setting curricula I've encountered over the years. Though I wrote all the text and instructions in the workbook, I'm providing the sources of where I encountered many of the concepts in the Values, Vision, and Goals course here.

How to Manage Your Social Media Use
Social media is great, but many people become frustrated by its addictive nature and the amount of time it uses up on a day to day basis. Many people, after completing the goal-setting course, will set a goal that involves limiting (or eradicating) social media use for a time. But it turns out removing an addictive behavior from your life is hard. Here are a couple tips for building a healthier relationship with social media use.
Why You Should Do Hard Things in the Morning
Have you ever wondered why you eat more junk food at the end of the day? It all has to do with willpower. Turns out willpower is a depleting asset. Read on for ways you can apply this principle to your goal-setting pursuits.
